The old fortified village of Caporciano is located on the left side of the valley, on top of a hill overlooking the charming Navelli plateau.
The strategic location of the village allowed it to dominate a large portion of the “Great Tratturo”, the most important commercial track of Abruzzo, crossed by shepherds and merchants since pre-Roman ages.
The original fortified structure remains standing north of the main tower, which today serves as a bell tower for the St. Benedict mother church.
Still recognizable, though transformed into living spaces, are three more towers and two gates to the village which have remained almost intact. Not far from the inhabited center is the small rural church of St. Peter. Inside of the church one can find a splendid Gothic ciborium and many frescoes.
