Not far from Sant’Eusanio lies San Demetrio ne’ Vestini one of the main villages of the valley, with a population of about 1,600 inhabitants. Important monuments of this village are the baroque Church of St. Demetrius, with an ancient bell tower, the spectacular Palazzo Cappelli, Palazzo Ducale and the nineteenth-century church S. Maria dei Raccomandati, where some paintings of Teofilo Patini are preserved.
But what makes San Demetrio famous lies outside of the village, in the nearby village of Stiffe where the famous Stiffe Caves can be found. These caves can certainly be counted among the most beautiful and spectacular natural phenomena of Italy.
